SUSTAINABILITY

At Bracken Lodges we are committed to helping to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. Here are some of our environmental objectives listed below:

Energy - We use led low energy light bulbs, outside movement and timed sensors. Encourage guests to turn down heating and turn off lighting when not required. All lodges have double glazed windows and are fully insulated. Blankets can be provided in winter months if required so that guests do not have to necessarily put the heating up if they not wish to do so.

Water - We have dual flush w.c's fitted in some of the lodges and are replacing some baths with water efficient showers. Laundry for all the lodges is done on site in large commercial machines, which saves the need to travel to and from a local laundrette.

Purchasing - Guests are informed prior to arrival regarding the location of local shops, delicatessen and encouraged to support small local businesses. We bulk buy cleaning products and use recyclable products where possible. Guests are asked if they would like to receive their booking confirmation by e-mail in order to save on postage and paper costs.

Transport - Our guest information folder contains details of local walks and cycle routes in the immediate area. There are also information booklets describing local places to visit and places of interest. Car free activities whilst staying at the lodges may include hill walking, cycling, fishing, birdwatching, kayaking and photography. Electric vehicles can be charged from your lodge.

Waste - Our large waste containers are collected fortnightly and guests are actively encouraged to recycle paper, plastic, glass, cardboard and tins where possible.

Wildlife - We actively encourage guests to highlight what wildlife they may see surrounding the lodges. There is an abundance of wildlife around the park including red squirrels, roe deer, pine martens, hedgehogs, weasels, stoats, black cock and pheasants.  Bird of prey sightings include ospreys, buzzards, sparrowhawk, tawny owls and occasionally peregrine falcon.  Garden birds include, robins, blue tits, coal tits, great tits, goldfinches, greenfinches, chaffinches and siskins to name a few. We have squirrel feeders and bird feeders all around the park.
